Designed to reduce food waste and increase confidence in food safety, this small device attaches to the front of food containers and visually communicates freshness through light. Using an internal timer, temperature sensor, and ambient light detection, it knows when a refrigerator has been opened and updates its status accordingly. A glowing spectrum of color—green for fresh, orange for eat soon, and red for expired—gives users an immediate, intuitive understanding of what’s still good, and what’s not. Subtle, smart, and easy to use, FreshTrack brings quiet intelligence to everyday food storage.
I designed this smart freshness indicator and created the animation to better communicate how it works. The video demonstrates how the device visually tracks food freshness over time—helping users make quicker, more confident decisions while reducing waste.
